The Supreme Court is set to hear on March 18 a suo motu case in which it had put a stay on the Lokpal’s order allowing complaints against sitting High Court judges.
A three-judge bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai, Surya Kant, and Abhay S. Oka will preside over the proceedings.
The matter stems from the Lokpal’s January 27 order, which prompted the Supreme Court to intervene. On February 20, while considering the case, the court stayed the Lokpal’s directive, calling it “something very, very disturbing” as it affected judicial independence.
The court had also issued notices and sought responses from the center, the Lokpal registrar, and the complainant, who had filed allegations against a sitting High Court judge.
