The Supreme Court is scheduled to resume the hearing on November 28 regarding the plea filed by the Gandhi family and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the income tax assessment case. Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, AAP, and various charitable trusts have collectively challenged the transfer of income tax assessment from faceless assessment to the Central Circle of Income Tax.
The bench, presided over by Justices Sanjeev Khanna and S. N. V. Bhatti adjourned the hearing after considering the petitions filed on October 3 by Congress leaders Rahul, Sonia, and Priyanka. The Supreme Court noted that central assessment might be necessary in cases involving cross-transactions between individuals.
Arvind Datar, the legal representative for the Gandhi family and associated trusts, asserted that the income tax officials had linked them to supplementary cases stemming from the search in the matter of fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari. These cases reportedly involve Priyanka Gandhi's husband, Robert Vadra. The Gandhi family vehemently maintains that they have no association with the Bhandari group cases, emphasizing that no search or seizure has taken place in their instances.
