SC seeks response from Center on petition raising issue of disabled assistance, hearing to be held after four weeks

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Center to respond to a plea seeking that the quantum of assistance given to disabled persons should be 25 per cent more than the assistance given to others under similar social welfare schemes.

A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud issued notice to the Center seeking its response on the petition filed by Delhi-based organization 'Bhumika Trust' and posted the matter for hearing after four weeks.

This move underscores the court's commitment to ensuring equitable access to essential social services for disabled citizens, emphasizing the importance of addressing their unique needs and challenges. With the matter slated for a hearing in four weeks, the legal proceedings hold the potential to shape future policies and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life and opportunities for disabled individuals in India.
