On Friday, the Supreme Court seeks response from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in connection with a petition seeking the relocation of the trial for the disproportionate assets case against him. The petitioner, Raghu Ramkrishna Raju, is requesting that the trial be moved from Hyderabad to Delhi.
A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti has also directed the CBI to provide an explanation for the ongoing delays in the trial proceedings.
The Court addressed a petition submitted by Raghu Ramkrishna Raju, a Member of Parliament from the YSR Congress. It's worth noting that the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister serves as the party's president.
Raju has requested the relocation of the trial to a court situated outside the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, alleging that the current state machinery is favoring the Chief Minister by intentionally slowing down the trial process.
Raju emphasized that not even the CBI has contested a High Court decision that exempted Chief Minister Reddy from appearing in person before the court. The trial has been dragging on for over a decade, and formal charges have yet to be framed.
Consequently, the plea was made to transfer the trial of Chief Minister Reddy to a different state in order to ensure an impartial and fair trial, and to prevent any perceived collaboration between the CBI and Reddy.
