Today, the Supreme Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation that had sought directions to establish guidelines for safeguarding the practice of Hinduism in India.
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) came up for hearing before a bench consisting of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sudhanshu Dhulia, and Ahsanuddin Amanullah.
The petitioner, Daudhraj Singh, represented himself in the case.
Justice Kaul expressed his astonishment at the petition, stating, "What is the nature of this petition? It appears to be requesting directions to the appropriate government authorities of India for the formulation of guidelines aimed at protecting Hinduism in the country."
“Somebody will say protect Islam in India? Somebody will say protect Christianity in India,” Justice Kaul added.
The judge also emphasized that the responsibility of defining the curriculum is not within the purview of the court.
Back in Februrary 2023, the Court rejected the Petition. Today, the bench reviewed an application submitted by the petitioner seeking to reconsider the prior dismissal order. The bench ultimately declined to reconsider the order and dismissed the petition due to its lack of merit.
