On Tuesday, the Supreme Court declined to consider the bail applications of AAP leader Manish Sisodia in the cases filed by the CBI and the ED related to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.
The Supreme Court, however, stated that Manish Sisodia could renew his bail petitions once the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submit their final prosecution complaint and charge sheet, respectively, in the cases concerning alleged corruption and money laundering.
A prosecution complaint is the ED's equivalent of a charge sheet.
A vacation bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and Sandeep Mehta acknowledged the submissions of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the ED and CBI, that the central probe agencies would file their final prosecution complaint and charge sheet by July 3.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Sisodia, argued for his bail, noting that the trial in these cases has not yet begun despite Sisodia being in custody for nearly 15 months. Singhvi pointed out that the trial is unlikely to commence soon as investigations are still ongoing. Sisodia had approached the apex court to challenge the Delhi High Court's May 21 verdict, which rejected his bail pleas in the cases investigated by the two central agencies.
In a significant setback for Delhi's former deputy chief minister, the high court dismissed his bail applications, citing the grave misuse of power and breach of public trust involved in the matter.
