SC bought end to all pending cases in various HC's related to movie "Adipurush''

Today, the Supreme Court concluded all pending cases in various High Courts concerning the movie "Adipurush."

In response to a transfer petition filed by the film's producer, seeking to move the cases from various High Courts to the Supreme Court, the Court issued an order to bring an end to all ongoing proceedings.

The Court said that "All these matters must now be closed."

The divison bench of  Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia said -

“...the film now having been released we are of the view, that all the proceedings related to this film filed in different courts are futile exercise which must stand closed. Thus, we consider it appropriate to close the proceedings pending before different high Courts related to the subject matter in issue, film having been released pursuant to the certification of the competent authority constituted under Cinematography act, 1952.”

These contested petitions, which are currently under consideration, have been filed in the High Courts of Rajasthan, Punjab & Haryana, and Allahabad. They aim to prohibit the movie and invalidate the Central Board of Film Certification granted to it. The basis for these petitions is the alleged offense to the sentiments of Hindus and devotees of various deities portrayed in the film, claiming that it has resulted in the "destruction of their fundamental values and characters" and alterations to the 'basic structure' of Valmiki Ramayana.

Last month, the Supreme Court granted the interim relief that there shall be stay of further proceedings in these matters, pending before different High Courts.
