Registrar General to conduct inquiry and submit a report identifying the unruly advocates: Allahabad HC

On December 22, Justice Suneet Kumar and Justice Syed Waiz Mian of the Allahabad High Court's division bench took serious note of the actions of a few "unruly" attorneys who shouted threats against police officers outside the courthouse, including female officers, who had been summoned by the court in connection with a criminal writ petition.

The bench ordered the Registrar General to make a covert investigation and submit a report in this regard naming the disruptive attorneys. The Court further mandated that the matter be filed as a distinct instance.

In essence, the Court was debating a criminal writ petition submitted by one Kamla Singh asking for the transfer of a case due to an unfair police probe. In accordance with the court's ruling from December 20th, the involved police officers—including the Commissioner of Police—appeared before the bench on Thursday. In order to protect the officers' safety, including that of the female officer, the court had to rise. To prevent an untoward incident, one of the officers had to accompany the court as they were taken from the judges' entry door through the judges' corridor and up the judges' lift.

The counsel chased the cops toward Gate No. 1 with the intention of assaulting them, the Court was further informed.

" Having regard to the conduct of the advocates, it appears that the drama was stage-managed to malign the Court proceedings," the Court added.

Given the situation, the court did not feel willing to keep an eye on the investigation, and after noting that the petitioner already had a chance to file a complaint with the magistrate, it dismissed the writ petition as being rendered infructuous.
