Today, the Supreme Court agreed to hear the petition on 21st July, filed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi seeking stay of his conviction in the criminal defamation case over 'Modi-thieves' remark.
Senior Advocate Dr.Abhishek Manu Singhvi counsel for Rahul filed a petition before CJI DY Chandrachud for urgent listing.
CJI agreed to list on Friday.
Gandhi has filed the special leave petition challenging the Gujarat High Court's refusal to stay his conviction in the criminal defamation case.
Single-judge Justice Hemant Prachchhak said that staying conviction is not a rule and the same must only be exercised in rare cases.
The Gujarat High Court has acknowledged the existence of 10 additional criminal defamation complaints against Gandhi. The court further stated that the order issued by the sessions court did not warrant any interference in the matter.
