On Monday, the President of India granted approval to three bills aimed at overhauling the country's criminal justice system. Although the official publication in the Gazette of India is pending, the development has been made public on the Rashtrapati Bhavan website.
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam are slated to replace the existing Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and Indian Evidence Act.
Initially introduced as Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill in the Lok Sabha on August 11, these bills underwent further examination by a parliamentary committee led by Brij Lal.
Subsequently, they received approval from the Lok Sabha on December 20 and the Rajya Sabha on December 21. While the information is available on the Rashtrapati Bhavan website, the official publication in the Gazette of India is still pending.
