In an unprecedented move, the Karnataka High Court has recently demonstrated compassion and flexibility in its approach to the main judicial services examination. A female lawyer, Advocate Nethravathi, has been granted a special accommodation, allowing her to sit for the mains examination in her hometown of Mangaluru instead of the originally designated location in Bengaluru. This exceptional decision, rooted in sensitivity to the lawyer's health condition during the eighth month of pregnancy, was communicated through a press release issued on November 17.
The mains examination, scheduled for November 18 and 19 in Bengaluru, is a crucial step in the direct recruitment initiative aimed at filling 57 vacancies for civil judge positions. Advocate Nethravathi, having qualified in the preliminary examinations held on July 27, approached the High Court seeking permission to take the mains exam in Mangaluru. Her request emphasized the significant challenges posed by the journey to Bengaluru due to her advanced stage of pregnancy.
The High Court committee responsible for evaluating such requests, comprising Justices PS Dinesh Kumar, K Somashekar, S Sunil Dutt Yadav, Ashok S Kinagi, and M Nagaprasanna, granted approval. Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale also endorsed the decision, underlining the court's commitment to inclusivity and understanding individual needs.
To ensure the integrity of the examination process, the Registrar General of the High Court has appointed a female judicial officer as an observer for the main examination in Mangaluru. The proceedings will be conducted at the District Court, and the Principal District and Sessions Judge will oversee the supervision. Additionally, instructions have been given to the local judge to make necessary medical arrangements at the examination center, addressing any potential emergencies during the main examination.
