Plea of Journalist Rana Ayyub challenging the summons issued by PMLA Court listed on January 25

The court that was due to hear the journalist Rana Ayyub's appeal contesting the summons issued by a Special PMLA Court in Ghaziabad today postponed the hearing till January 25, according to the calendar.

A bench made up of Justices JB Pardiwala and V Ramasubramanian was presented with the plea today. Advocate Vrinda Grover requested an urgent listing of the case before Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud January 23, at either 2 PM or 4 PM, but the bench rejected the prayer as a result.

Grover noted that Ayyub had been directed to appear in court in Ghaziabad on that day when the CJI stated the matter might be posted on January 27. CJI then consented to post the case the next day.

In a prosecution complaint submitted by the Enforcement Directorate on alleged FCRA violations in obtaining public funds for COVID relief, Ayyub has been called to appear. It was claimed that Ayyub's use of the internet crowdfunding service Ketto to raise money violated the FCRA.
