PIL in Madras HC challenges BJP's 'Lotus' symbol allocation

PIL in Madras HC challenges BJP's 'Lotus' symbol allocation

A writ petition filed in the Madras High Court, in public interest is objecting to the allocation of the 'Lotus' as the symbol for the BJP. The petition argues that designating the National Flower of India to a specific political party is not appropriate.

As per the petitioner's argument, assigning the 'Lotus' as an election symbol to a political party is deemed unfair and in violation of Article 14 of the Indian Constitution.

"The foundation of free and fair elections rests on the principle of equality. If one political party is subjected to discrimination in favor of another, it constitutes a severe injustice," stated the petitioner.

The plea is expected to be scheduled for a hearing by the first bench of the high court, led by Chief Justice Sanjay Vijaykumar Gangapurwala, on October 30th.
