PIL Filed in Delhi HC Demands High-Level Inquiry into Rajendra Nagar Basement Tragedy

A public interest litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court, requesting the formation of a High-Level Committee to investigate the recent tragedy in Rajendra Nagar, where three civil services aspirants lost their lives.

The incident occurred at Rau's IAS coaching centre, where the aspirants were trapped in a flooded basement.

Advocate Rudra Vikram Singh mentioned the plea today before a division bench comprising the Acting Chief Justice and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela.

The bench stated that the matter would be listed tomorrow if the plea is in order by 12:30 PM today.

The PIL also calls for the establishment of a district-level committee in each district of the national capital to identify illegal commercial constructions. Additionally, it demands that authorities submit an action taken report based on previous directives concerning a fire incident at a coaching center in Mukherjee Nagar.

The plea further seeks the formation of a committee to investigate and report on coaching institutes operating illegally and failing to adhere to standard norms.

In response, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs for the families of the deceased. He also assured that action would be taken against the negligent officials from the Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) within 24 hours.
