Yesterday, the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government approached Calcutta High Court challenging an earlier order of the single bench allowing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the alleged recruitment scam across various municipalities in West Bengal.
The division bench of Justice Arijit Banerjee and Justice Apurba Kumar Sinha on Tuesday granted the state government leave to move the appeal against the CBI probe order
Last year, in April, a single-judge bench of the Calcutta HC transferred the case to the central probe agency.
On Tuesday, the division bench of the Calcutta HC admitted the West Bengal government's plea.
Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had carried out raids at the residence of Ayan Sil, an aide of expelled TMC leader Santanu Banerjee, during which several documents related to recruitment in municipalities were found and seized.
The central probe agency claimed that it had unearthed a municipality recruitment scam, and alleged that there was corruption in the recruitment of various posts across different municipalities of West Bengal.
