Mumbai Court Grants Permission for Jet Airways Founder Naresh Goyal to Attend Personal Medical Visits Amidst Concerns for Bedridden Wife

The Mumbai court has granted permission to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, allowing him to visit his private doctors for diagnosis and to be by the side of his bedridden wife.

Special PMLA Judge MG Deshpande emphasized the significance of the right to health, stating that it is a precious right. Furthermore, the judge noted that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is not in a position to oppose this right.

“Health is precious and getting proper treatment is his valuable right. ED cannot oppose the same and can depute their officer in case the accused is taken out of Jail for referring him to his private doctors,” the order states.

Additionally, the PMLA Court documented that Naresh Goyal's wife is grappling with cancer, and his daughter is also facing health challenges. Given these circumstances, the court considered it entirely reasonable for Goyal to seek to meet his ailing wife.

''His wife is bedridden, suffering from cancer. His only daughter is also reportedly not well to look after her mother. In this way, accused and his wife have become orphans. In such a situation, the feeling of meeting the ailing wife once is quite natural.''

The Special Court granted permission for Naresh Goyal to visit his wife on January 13th, permitting access from 10:30 AM until the closing hours of the jail. Additionally, the court sanctioned Goyal to consult with a cardiac specialist, a dentist, and an orthopedist.

This came after Naresh Goyal broke down in the Special PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) Court in Mumbai and urged the judge not to provide him with any medical assistance, expressing that he had lost all hope in life and would prefer to die inside the jail.

Goyal informed the court of his physical distress, stating that he is unable to fold both legs and is enduring considerable knee pain accompanied by swelling. Furthermore, he revealed that he often experiences urgency for urination, highlighting that the process has become excruciatingly painful, occasionally involving the presence of blood and unbearable discomfort.

In his plea, Goyal implored the judge to refrain from transferring him to JJ Hospital, citing it as a location marked by significant trouble, hectic procedures, and tedious processes. He conveyed his inability to endure and sustain the challenges associated with the hospital environment.

Goyal further elaborated that every visit to J.J. Hospital involves navigating through a prolonged queue of patients, making it challenging for him to reach the doctor promptly. Additionally, he highlighted the difficulty in securing timely follow-up examinations after being initially examined by the doctor during these visits.
