Mahua Moitra files defamation suit against advocate and BJP MP

On Tuesday, Member of Parliament (MP) from the Trinamool Congress, Mahua Moitra, initiated a defamation lawsuit in the Delhi High Court against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey, Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, and various media organizations. The lawsuit is in response to allegations that she received bribes in exchange for posing questions in Parliament.

Justice Sachin Datta is scheduled to preside over the case on Friday, October 20th.

Both Dubey and Dehadrai asserted that Moitra had received bribes in return for posing questions in Parliament. Specifically, Dubey wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging that Moitra had agreed to present questions in Parliament on behalf of businessman Darshan Hiranandani, in exchange for money and gifts. It was further claimed that some of these questions were related to the Adani Group, which is a competitor of Hiranandani.

Dubey's complaint originated from a letter he received from Dehadrai, who had submitted a complaint to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In his complaint, Dehadrai alleged that he possessed "indisputable evidence" indicating that Moitra had accepted bribes from Hiranandani.

Dehadrai asserted that Moitra granted Hiranandani full access to her online Lok Sabha account, which he allegedly misused to submit Parliamentary Questions according to his preferences. It was claimed that these questions constituted 50 out of the 61 questions that Moitra had posed.

Moitra had previously issued a legal notice to Dubey, Dehadrai, and various media organizations. In response, the Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament (TMC MP) refuted all the allegations, asserting that they were baseless and intended to gain political advantage and settle personal scores against her.
