Karnataka CM Pushes for Special Court to initiate Trials for Gauri Lankesh and MM Kalburgi Killings

On Wednesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah instructed officials to take action towards establishing a specialized court. This court would focus on expediting the trials related to the tragic killings of Gauri Lankesh and MM Kalburgi, aiming for a swifter resolution of these cases.

In September 2017, journalist Gauri Lankesh was tragically killed, allegedly by the same group responsible for the earlier shooting of renowned litterateur MM Kalburgi at his residence in Dharwad, two years prior.

Siddaramaiah highlighted in an administrative note that Kavitha Lankesh, Gauri Lankesh's sister, and Umadevi, MM Kalburgi's wife, had approached him to address the prolonged delay in the hearings pertaining to their cases.

At their request for a Special Court with a full-time judge to handle the case, the Chief Minister tasked the Additional Chief Secretary responsible for internal administration to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
