On Monday, the Central government officially announced the designation of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, effective December 29, 2023. Following the retirement of Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra on December 28, Justice Chandrashekhar will assume the responsibilities of the Chief Justice
Born on May 25, 1965, Justice Chandrashekhar attained his LL.B. from the Campus Law Centre (CLC), University of Delhi, in 1993. Subsequently, he commenced his legal practice as an advocate in the same year.
Throughout his extensive 19-year tenure as an advocate across multiple courts, Justice Chandrashekhar adeptly managed approximately 3,500 cases, notably focusing on the Supreme Court. His counsel featured prominently in around 140 reported judgments of the apex court.
His professional journey included notable positions as the Standing Counsel for the All India Council for Technical Education and the State of Jharkhand in the Supreme Court. He also served as legal representation for entities such as the Bihar State Housing Board (BSHB), the Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB), the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and numerous other corporations.
On January 17, 2013, Justice Chandrashekhar was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court. Later, on June 27, 2014, he ascended to the role of a permanent judge within the same court.
