In a recent announcement made by the Central Government on Thursday, Justice Lanusungkum Jamir has been appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. This significant development closely follows Justice Sandeep Mehta's elevation to the Supreme Court. Today, Justice Mehta is scheduled to take the oath of office at the highest court in the land.
Justice Jamir's legal journey began when he was designated as an additional judge at the Gauhati High Court in May 2013. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Manipur High Court in October 2018, and in November 2018, he was appointed as a permanent judge. Last year, he returned to the Gauhati High Court.
Justice Jamir's educational background is marked by his LL.B. degree, which he obtained in 1988 from the North Eastern Hill University. Following this, in 1989, he officially enrolled with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura.
