Today, the President of India has appointed Justice Goutam Bhaduri, as Acting Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court
A notification issued in this regard on Friday reads thus:
"In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint, Shri Justice Goutam Bhaduri, senior- most puisne Judge of High Court of Chhattisgarh, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 11.03.2023 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Arup Kumar Goswami, Chief Justice, High Court of Chhattisgarh."
He was born in the family of prominent lawyers S.K. Bhaduri (father) and P. Bhaduri (grand father). He did primary and middle schooling in Bengali Kalibadi School, Raipur and thereafter completed secondary education from St. Paul Higher Secondary, School, Raipur. Took B.Com., and LL.B degrees from Ravi Shankar University, Raipur. Recipient of gold medal in L.LB.
He was associated with the Society which runs 3 colleges at Raipur namely Durga College, Vivekanand College and Law College founded by his grand father. Was also member of the Educational Society and also Regional Societies.
He joined the law practice in the year 1985. Practiced law in various subordinate courts within the jurisdiction of Chhattisgarh and the erstwhile State of Madhya Pradesh as also High Court.
He shifted to Bilaspur in the year 2000. Worked as Government Advocate and thereafter promoted as Deputy Advocate General in the office of Advocate General, Bilaspur and continued uptill 2003. Subsequently practiced on private side.
He was elevated as Judge of High Court of Chhattisgarh on 16th September, 2013.
