Judgments will also be available in Hindi, says Himachal Pradesh High Court

The Himachal Pradesh High Court has provided significant relief to Hindi-speaking individuals. Starting from the day after Independence Day, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has announced that  the translations of judgments of the High Court have been uploaded to the website in Hindi

Himachal Pradesh High Court has made this decision following the lead of the Central Government and the Supreme Court.

Himachal Pradesh High Court, become the third High Court which translates judicial decisions into Hindi.

According to the Supreme Court's Legal Translation Software (Suvas), Madras ranks first, Delhi second, and Himachal Pradesh High Court, having translated 2294 judgments, holds the third position. So far, 20 high courts are connected to this software of the Supreme Court.

Last year on May 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a joint conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts. During this program, the Chief Justices of the country emphasized the need for proceedings in local languages in the Supreme and High Courts.

In addition to English, judgments are issued in the Supreme Court in Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati, and Odia. The translation of decisions into Hindi has been done for the benefit of proponents and the general public for limited use, allowing them to understand the judgment in their language.

English will continue to be the authorized form for all official and practical purposes, and it will be given priority for implementation. Live streaming of court proceedings will soon commence in the High Court. Himachal Pradesh High Court will become the seventh High Court in the country to have live streaming of court proceedings.

Earlier, live streaming of proceedings had been initiated in the High Courts of Gujarat, Odisha, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Patna, and Madhya Pradesh, as well as the Supreme Court of India. This allows media, proponents, and other interested individuals to participate in the proceedings. Gujarat High Court was the first High Court to begin live streaming of court proceedings.
