J&K and Ladakh High Court directed State government to File a Report on the Steps taken to implement RTE Act, 2009

In the matter of Young Lawyers Forum V/s UT of J&K & Ors. the division bench of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court headed by Justices Rajnesh Oswal and Mohan Lal directed the State Government to file a status report on the steps taken by the State government to implement the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 in the Union Territory. 

Advocate Huzaif Ashraf, the Counsel member of the Petitioner has mentioned that it has been over three years since the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 became applicable to Jammu and Kashmir and this act gave hope to children from marginalized and poor sections of society of access to education in private schools, which are otherwise unaffordable and unimaginable for them,

PIL Petition was moved by an NGO name Young Lawyers Forum', by Advocate Huzaif Ashraf. During the Court trials, he also mentioned that non-implementation of the mandatory reservation provided under Sections 12(1)(b) and 12(1)(c) of the RTE Act is a violation of the statutory mandate under the RTE Act.

The Court ordered to file the status report positively by 5th April 2023

The next date of the hearing is on 5th April 2023
