Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia while sitting as Chamber Judge and hearing an application for exemption for surrendering made remarks that "I could not understand anything from the High Court judgment, you please show me the role of the accused from the Trial Court Judgement."

Advocate Jagjit Singh Chhabra had filed a petition for Special Leave before the Supreme Court against the conviction order of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana in CRA-D-1410-DB-2015 passed on 05.09.2022.

It was argued that the similarly situated persons have been granted exemption from surrendering and the petitioner has remained in jail for more than 8 years.

Justice Dhulia said that it is a life conviction and he was named in the FIR but his name was wrongly mentioned in the FIr which was later corrected in the 161 CRPC statement.

He was given time of three weeks to surrender.
