Gujarat High Court seeks response from State Government against use of Loudspeakers for Azaan

Yesterday, the Gujarat High Court seeks a response from the State Government to file its reply on a PIL against the use of Loudspeakers in Mosques for Azaan. The Court directed the state government to take appropriate measures for banning the use of loudspeakers in mosques.

The division bench of Justice A. J. Desai and Justice Biren Vaishnav allowed Bajrang Dal leader, Shaktisinh Zala, to join an already instituted PIL in this regard after the original petitioner Dharmendra Prajapati sought to withdraw his plea citing threats from people belonging to a certain community.

Last year, Gujarat Based doctor moves to the Court, stating that People offer prayers in Masjid using Loudspeakers and this causes great inconvenience and disturbance to the nearby residents. Court had held that Azan is certainly an essential and integral part of Islam but the use of microphones and loudspeakers is not an essential and integral part thereof.

Yesterday, Zala approaches Court through his counsel 'take up the cause' and hence, the Court was requested to seek a reply from the State Government.

The next date of the hearing is on 12th April, 2023.
