Giving Political color to anything is not right, said Kolkata HC to State Govt

Recently, the Kolkata High Court shows displeasure towards the State government over alleged negligence in addressing a public interest petition filed by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.

The petition alleges disrespect to the national flag in front of a school in Hooghly District of Kolkata on the occasion of Independence Day.

The single-headed bench of Justice Shivagnanam questioned the council for the state government.

'Don't you think that the offenders should be punished?', the Court asked.

During the hearing, When the lawyer argued that there was no disrespect to the national flag, the Chief Justice questioned the arrests of 17 people on that day.

Further, the bench verbally held that 

''Giving political color to anything is not the right perspective''

Justice Shivagnanam stated that the state has no acqurate reason to adopt this stance that there was no disrespect to the national flag because the complaint was made by a political figure.

He also mentioned that the arrest of only the accused individuals is not sufficient.

The bench also emphasizing the need for proper investigation methods, the Chief Justice said that they would be kept behind bars for a few days, after which they would be released on bail.
