Gangster Act Case: Supreme Court will hear Afzal Ansari's petition on October 10

Supreme Court agrees to hear petition of Afzal Ansari, brother of mafia Mukhtar Ansari and former MP from Ghazipur, on October 10. Afzal Ansari has sought suspension of his conviction in the Gangster Act case.

The case was heard by a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Datta, who listed the matter for further hearing. Allahabad High Court refused to stay the trial court's order convicting him in the Gangster Act case.

Afzal has been sentenced to four years imprisonment after the charges were proved i.e. convicted by the special court of MP MLA of Ghazipur district. Now the Supreme Court has ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to file a reply on this application.

Afzal Ansari, represented by advocate Zubair Ahmed Khan, has appealed the Allahabad High Court's order in the Supreme Court. Furthermore, Afzal Ansari's eligibility for Lok Sabha membership was nullified following his conviction in the Ghazipur court.

His reinstatement as an MP is contingent upon the suspension of his conviction.
