Former Chief Justice of Calcutta HC, Prakash Srivastava, set to become new Chairman of NGT

Former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Justice Prakash Srivastava, is set to become the new Chairman of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The Cabinet Appointments Committee of the Central Government approved the appointment of Justice Prakash Srivastava as the Chairman of the NGT on August 14th, although an official announcement has not been made yet.

A senior official of the NGT has confirmed the appointment, and it is expected that Justice Prakash will take the oath as Chairman on August 23rd. Following the retirement of former NGT Chairman Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel on July 6th, Justice Shiv Kumar Singh was appointed as the Executive Chairman.

Justice Prakash Srivastava was enrolled as an advocate on February 2, 1987, and practiced extensively in the Supreme Court, handling cases related to taxation, civil matters, and constitutional issues for an extended period. He was appointed as a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on January 18, 2008, and later became a Permanent Judge on January 15, 2010. On October 11, 2021, he took the oath as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court and retired from service on March 30, 2023.
