Today, the Supreme Court reserved its decision on the bail petitions submitted by AAP leader Manish Sisodia in connection with the corruption and money laundering cases related to the purported Delhi excise policy scam.
A bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan listened to arguments from senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Manish Sisodia, and Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju, who appeared on behalf of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26, 2023, for his purported role in irregularities related to the formulation and implementation of the now-abandoned Delhi excise policy 2021-22. Subsequently, the ED arrested him on March 9, 2023, in connection with the money laundering case arising from the CBI FIR.
He resigned from the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023.
Manish Sisodia, a former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, has sought bail, arguing that he has been in custody for 17 months and that his trial has yet to commence. The ED and the CBI have opposed his bail applications. The ED has presented documents to the Supreme Court, asserting Sisodia's "neck-deep involvement" in the alleged scam.
