Today, Delhi high court has granted bail to former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain booked in five separate instances of violence in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots.
All five FIRs were registered in the same year at Dayal Pur Police Station in connection with the Delhi riots.
The single-headed bench of Justice Anish Dayal said on Wednesday while pronouncing the verdict on the bail applications by Hussain in the cases.
Hussain was also registered for the cases relate to the injuries suffered by two people on account of a riotous mob pelting stones, throwing petrol bombs and firing gunshots from the terrace of Hussain's house and the alleged commission of offences of attempt to murder and violation of the Arms Act.
Hussain is also facing prosecution for the destruction of public property.
The Delhi Police filed two chargesheets in the Delhi riots case on June 2, 2020. In one of the chargesheets, they named Tahir Hussain as the main conspirator.
As per the police investigation, there was a "deep-rooted conspiracy" to cause riots in northeast Delhi.
"Tahir Hussain, a politician of the Aam Aadmi Party and sitting councillor in EDMC played a pivotal role in the incident. His younger brother, Shah Alam, was also arrested. Hussain’s licensed pistol, which was used by him during the riots, was seized during the investigation," police said.
