Delhi Mayor Elections: Supreme Court lists petition 3rd February

On January 27, a Supreme Court division bench comprised of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Dipankar Datta listed a plea requesting that the 3rd of February 2023 mayoral elections be held on time. Before a bench, Senior Attorney AM Singhvi raised the issue.

Dr. Shelly Oberoi, a mayoral candidate for the Aam Aadmi Party, filed the petition, which calls for the prompt holding of the Delhi mayoral elections.

Election day for Delhi's mayor was set for January 24, 2023. (for the second time this month). However, the elections were delayed when the LG-appointed presiding officer adjourned the House indefinitely in response to a commotion caused by some council members.

Due to commotion between AAP and BJP members, the first meeting of the newly elected House of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was also postponed on January 6.
