The Delhi High Court Friday restrained the Delhi government and other authorities from taking any coercive steps to remove a Hanuman temple in the Northeast district.
A single-judge bench of Justice Tushar Rao Gedela was hearing a plea moved by the petitioner, Pradeep Kumar Sharma, who claimed he was aggrieved by the “connivance, malicious representations and cryptic claims” made by the respondents — Delhi government, PWD and DDA — with respect to a two-storey Hanuman temple in Gokalpur village, Loni Road junction, in the Northeast area.
Justice Gedela, while issuing notice to the respondents as well as the Delhi Police, noted, “It appears that talks for an alternative plot seems to have met a road block.”
The Delhi government’s counsel submitted that he would take instructions in respect of the fallout of the meeting and if possible, any further meeting can take place for the purpose of resolving this dispute.“In the meanwhile, no coercive action will be taken by any of the respondents (Government Authority) to remove the Hanuman Temple under the letter dated 03.05.2023 issued by PWD till the next date of hearing”.
