Delhi High Court Orders YouTuber to Delete Video on Gurmeet Ram Rahim

The Delhi High Court issued an order on Wednesday directing YouTuber and journalist Shyam Meera Singh to remove the video he published about Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

Justice Jasmeet Singh determined that the video appeared to be defamatory towards Ram Rahim at first glance, as it lacked a disclaimer regarding the sources of the allegations presented.

As per the Court's directive, the video must be removed from all social media platforms within 24 hours. The clarification stated that Singh has the option to create a new video, provided it includes disclaimers specifying that certain segments were sourced from trial court orders and a book authored by another journalist.

After the video was uploaded, Ram Rahim filed a defamation lawsuit against Shyam Meera Singh, alleging that the video aimed to bias his upcoming appeal hearing before the High Court.

In court, Singh clarified that the content of the video was sourced from trial court orders and the book titled "Dera Sacha Sauda and Gurmeet: A Decade-long Investigation," authored by journalist Anurag Tripathi.

Additionally, Singh argued that the video constituted a journalistic piece and highlighted that Ram Rahim had not taken any legal action against Anurag Tripathi, despite the author's book being in the public domain since 2018.
