The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of Delhi University's plea against St. Stephen’s College's adoption of an 85-15 formula for minority applicants, combining 85% from the entrance exam and 15% from interviews.
The bench, comprising Justices AS Bopanna and PS Narasimha, adjourned the case until August 21 as per the University Grants Commission's request.
The UGC has also appealed against the Delhi High Court's interim order permitting the college's weighting scheme for Christian minority seats. Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta argued against interviews due to their subjectivity, while St. Stephen's representative objected.
The court will hear the case along with UGC's plea. The dispute arises from Delhi University's admission policy, challenged by St. Stephen's.
The college initially proposed the 85-15 formula for non-Christian and later all applicants, leading to legal battles.
Last year, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of CUET-only admission for non-minority students, while this year's policy has sparked another round of litigation.
