Delhi HC seeks response from Centre and MCD on plea for Large Gathering at Ramlila Maidan on December 4

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought response from the Centre, Delhi Police and Delhi Municipal Corporation on a plea seeking permission to an organization to organize a large gathering at Ramlila Maidan on December 4.

Advocate Arun Panwar, appearing for Delhi Police before the bench of Justice Subramaniam Prasad, told the bench that the application regarding NOC to organize the event on December 4 has been considered, but the request could not be accepted.

He said that the Central District has received an application on November 8 from Mahatyagi Seva Sansthan to organize a program at Ramlila Maidan from December 3 to December 5.

The advocate said that Mahatyagi Seva Sansthan has already been given NOC for December 4, so it is not possible to consider any other application for the same date.

The court asked the police to produce a copy of the other organization's application and related records including when it was received. The bench listed the matter for further hearing on November 24.

The petitioner is aggrieved by the pending decision by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central District, on his application seeking NOC for organizing the All India Muslim Mahapanchayat program at Ramlila Maidan on December 4.

The petitioner organization had earlier called a mass meeting on October 29, for which they were initially given permission but later the permission order was canceled by the police. The petitioner then rescheduled his event for December 4 and applied for permission to book Ramlila Maidan on November 10.

The petition states that the petitioner wants to initiate a series of programs to strengthen all the vulnerable sections starting with minority communities to other communities like SC, ST, OBC and all the victims will be voiced in the meetings.
