A Delhi court has directed the registration of an FIR against newly elected minister Kapil Mishra and others to investigate their potential involvement in the 2020 Delhi riots.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia observed that there was "prima facie" evidence of a cognizable offense, warranting further investigation. "It is evident that Mishra was present in the area at the time of the alleged incident... further inquiry is required," the judge stated.
The order came while hearing a petition filed by Mohammad Ilyas, a resident of Yamuna Vihar, who sought the registration of an FIR. The plea was contested by the Delhi Police, which argued that Mishra had no involvement in the riots that occurred in North East Delhi.
