Delhi court issues summons to Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Arvind Kejriwal, in response to complaint filed by BJP leader

Recently, Delhi court issued summons to Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, allegedly for violating the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, by getting herself enrolled on voter lists for two different constituencies.

The order was issued by Metropolitan Magistrate Arjinder Kaur of the Tis Hazari court in response to a petition submitted by Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Harish Khurana.

“After considering the testimony of complainant and other witnesses, this Court is of the considered opinion that prima facie case is made out against accused person namely, Sunita Kejriwal W/o Sh. Arvind Kejriwal for the alleged commission of the offences punishable under section 31 of the Representation of Peoples Act, 1950. Hence, the accused be summoned accordingly,” the order dated August 29 stated.

BJP leader filed a complaint against Sunita Kejriwal in 2019 alleging that she is registered as a voter on the electoral rolls of Sahibabad (Ghaziabad constituency) and Chandni Chowk in Delhi, which is in violation of Section 17 of the Representation of the People Act.

 The next date of hearing is on November 18, 2023.
