Delhi Court Denies Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's Request for 7-Day Interim Bail in Excise Policy Case

Delhi Court Denies Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's Request for 7-Day Interim Bail in Excise Policy Case

A Delhi court has denied the interim bail plea of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who sought a seven-day release in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Courts announced the decision, also ordering medical tests for Kejriwal following concerns raised by his lawyer, Vivek Jain, about the CM's health.

Jain highlighted discrepancies in Kejriwal's weight measurements taken in Tihar jail, indicating health issues. The court stated that Kejriwal could file a formal application if health concerns persist.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, accused of manipulating the Delhi Excise Policy 2021–22 to benefit certain liquor sellers, allegedly using kickbacks to fund the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) campaign in Goa. As AAP's National Convenor, Kejriwal is considered responsible for the alleged money laundering.

Other AAP leaders implicated include former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and MP Sanjay Singh. Kejriwal was in jail until May 10, when the Supreme Court granted him interim bail to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, which ended on June 2.

Kejriwal's current bail request, citing medical grounds for tests due to fluctuating sugar levels and high blood ketone levels, was contested by the ED, which claimed he was fabricating reasons for bail. The trial court will address his regular plea on June 7.
