Cracker ban will continue in Delhi: Supreme Court

Justice MR Shah and Krishna Murari while hearing a Public Interest litigation petition on the issue of lifting of cracker ban made strong observations "Why do you want to increase pollution". The Court further observed, "Have you seen the condition after Diwali."

The order and observation of the Supreme Court have come on a petition filed by BJP Leader Manoj Tiwari. The counsel for the petitioner started the arguments by urging that "Arrest and FIRs on the festive seasons like Dipawali and others had not only brought a very bad message to the society at large and had unnecessarily created fear and panic and anger among the masses."

The petitioner prayed before the court to issue guidelines to each state not to take coercive steps against the common public in case of using or selling the permissible firecrackers during the upcoming festival seasons and issue guidelines to each and every state to take necessary measures in order to reduce the pollutions.

The Court passed an order to list the case along with List along with case (WC 728/15). The matter is listed on 14.10.2022 for further hearing.
