Claim of Taj Mahal being Tejomahalaya; Dispute reached Court

On Monday, the long-standing debate surrounding the Taj Mahal being Tejomahalaya entered the courtroom. Advocate Ajay Pratap Singh represented the Yogeshwar Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sangh Trust and Kshatriya Shaktipeeth Vikas Trust, filing a petition in the Civil Court Senior Division. This petition names the Director General of ASI, the Superintending Archaeologist of Agra Circle, and the Director General of Uttar Pradesh Tourism as respondents.

Advocate Ajay Pratap Singh said that ASI Director General Madhoswaroop Vats has disputed the name of the architect of the Taj Mahal in the Bulletin of Ancient India of 1946 and the Agra Gazetteer of 1905. The fact of the construction of the Taj Mahal has also been disputed in the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal of the year 1910.

Advocate Ajay Pratap Singh said that in the suit, Taj Mahal has been described as a Tejomahalaya temple. The Tejo name is Bholenath in the Shiv Sahastra name source. Mahalaya means temple in Sanskrit. There is also a description of the construction of Tejolinga in Vishwakarma Prakash. The original name of Taj Mahal was Tejomahalaya, which is corrupted to TaAjmahal.

While hearing the hearing, the court asked the plaintiff to complete the proceedings of Section 80(1) Civil Procedure Code notice. Advocate Ajay Pratap Singh said that he will send a notice to the defendant and file the case again after two months.
