Former Attorney General of India (AG) and Senior Advocate KK Venugopal appeared in the Supreme Court on 30 January in a case. During the hearing in the court of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, the CJI started calling him Mr. Attorney. However, after a few seconds, the Chief Justice realized his mistake and rectified the mistake.
When he realized the mistake, CJI immediately said- Oh Sorry. CJI DY Chandrachud said, 'Sorry I am calling you attorney… People say old habits are very difficult to change…. The CJI smiled and said that for us once you are an attorney, you are an attorney forever (Once an Attorney, always an Attorney)…. Everyone smiled at this statement of the Chief Justice.
Let us tell you that in the year 2017, Senior Advocate KK Venugopal (Former AG KK Venugopal) was appointed by the President as the Attorney General of the country for 3 years. When his tenure was about to end in the year 2020, he had asked the government for just one more term keeping in mind his age. In 2022 also he was again appointed Attorney General for one year.
KK Venugopal got an extension of 3 months after his term ends on 30 June 2022. However, KK Venugopal was not ready to continue on the post of AG due to personal reasons.
Let us tell you that KK Venugopal is counted among the veteran advocates of the country. KK Venugopal has also been the Additional Solicitor General of the country from 1979 to 1980. The government honored him with the Padma Bhushan in 2002 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
