CJI constitute a committee to conduct accessibility audit of Supreme Court premises

Chief Justice of India Dr. DY Chandrachud has constituted a committee headed by Justice S. Ravindra Bhat to conduct an audit of "Physical and functional access" of the Supreme Court premises to make it disabled-friendly. 

The notice in this regard has been issued on 19th December 2023 which says that "The Chief Justice of India has been pleased to constitute a committee namely the 'Supreme Court Committee on Accessibility to conduct an accessibility audit of physical as well as functional access to the Supreme Court chaired by S. Ravindra Bhat, Judge, Supreme Court of India."

As per the notice, other members of the Committee include Dr. Sanjay Jain, Professor of National Law School of India University, Bangulure, Shakti Mishra, Librarian nominated from the apex court, V. Sridhar Reddy, Advocate nominated by the Supreme Court Bar Association and Nilesh Singit, Independent accessibility expert nominated by the Centre for Disability Studies (NALSAR)

Ajay Agarwal, Addl. Registrar of the Supreme Court of India is the member (Secretary) of the committee.

Recently CJI Chandrachud had asked Sr. Adv. SK Rungta as to how he follows written arguments and gets them converted into a braille document. During the argument, CJI Chandrachud had announced that he would make the Supreme Court premises accessible to physically impaired persons.
