CJI, Chief Guest, abstained Holi Milan of SC Bar Association, had an altercation with President Vikas Singh

Chief Justice of India Dr. DY Chandrachud did not attend the Holi Milan function organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Friday i.e. 3rd March 2023. Chief Justice Chandrachud was the chief guest of the event and his name was also written on the banner. The Chief Justice's absence is being linked to his tussle with SCBA President and Senior Advocate Vikas Singh.

Many judges of the Supreme Court, senior advocates and all the members of the Bar participated in the Holi Milan program of the Bar Association. Veteran poets Ashok Chakradhar and Shambhu Shikhar recited poetry, but the absence of the CJI remained a topic of discussion in the programme.

On 2nd March 2023 itself, there was a heated argument between Chief Justice Chandrachud and Supreme Court Bar Association President and Senior Advocate Vikas Singh. The CJI even told Vikas Singh to leave the courtroom.

In fact, advocate Vikas Singh was seeking hearing on the petition allotting the land of 'Appu Ghar' to the lawyers' chamber. He told Justice Chandrachud that this petition could not be heard for 6 times. On which Chief Justice Chandrachud asked him to come in his spare time. On this, Advocate Vikas Singh said that he would have to take the matter to the judges' house. The CJI became very angry on this matter and in a loud voice asked Vikas Singh to sit down.

Justice Chandrachud said that his bench was not cowed by this and that no member of the bar had ever disrespected him in this manner and would not allow it to happen even in the last two years of his career. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal had apologized to the Chief Justice on the whole issue after a heated argument between the CJI and Advocate Vikas Singh.
