Additional District Judge (Addl. Charge Family Court) Bilara, Dist- Jodhpur in Rajasthan Sh. Pukhraj Gehlot gave a strong message to society by annulling the marriage of one Sonu in Rajasthan which took place 17 years ago.
Sonu is 21 years of age today who is daughter of a daily wage laborer resident of village Pithawas in Birala Tehsil of Jodhpur District in Rajasthan. She got married 17 years ago to a youth resident of Luni Tehsil in Rajasthan under the pressure of the community. at the time of marriage age of the bride, Sonu was 4 years.
The entire credit for bringing the child bride out of this curse goes to Dr. Kriti Bharti who is the Managing Trustee of Saarthi Trust. Dr. Bharti is a rehabilitation psychologist who has done some remarkable work in the last few years.
When Sonu heard about the campaign of Dr. Bharati against child marriage and after being encouraged by her, she filed a case for annulment of her marriage in the family court. Her family members and even Bharti had to face many threats from society due to this.
After the court verdict, Sonu said "Now i will shape my future with the help of Bharti Didi, I will now study and realise my future dreams."
