Centre Approves one-year Extension for Three Chhattisgarh HC Additional Judges

On March 26, the Central government granted a one-year extension to the tenure of three additional judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

The additional judges whose terms extended are:

1. Justice Sachin Singh Rajput

2. Justice Radhakishan Agrawal

3. Justice Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal

On March 20, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the extension of their terms.

This marks the second instance where the Collegium has proposed extensions for Justices Rajput and Agrawal.

Justice Rajput, who was elevated from the bar, was appointed as an additional judge in May 2022.

Justice Agrawal, previously a district and sessions judge, was elevated to the High Court as an additional judge in August 2022.

In April 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended a one-year extension for both additional judges, which the Centre approved in May 2024. Their extended term is set to expire later this year. However, the Collegium has now proposed another one-year extension for them.

Justice Jaiswal was appointed as a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court in April 2023. Before his elevation, he served as a judicial officer in various courts and held the position of Registrar General of the High Court.

The Chhattisgarh High Court currently has 16 judges in service, while its sanctioned strength is 22.
