After months of delay, the Centre has finally approved the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation to transfer Delhi High Court judge Justice Chandra Dhari Singh to the Allahabad High Court.
The Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification on Friday formalizing the transfer.
In November 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and comprising Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant, had recommended Justice Singh's repatriation.
"The Supreme Court Collegium in its meetings held on 28th and 29th November 2024 has recommended repatriation of Mr. Justice Chandra Dhari Singh, Judge, High Court of Delhi, to his parent High Court i.e. the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad," the top court had said in a statement then.
However, the recommendation remained pending with the Central government until now.
The transfer has now been approved along with a similar recommendation to transfer Justice Yashwant Varma to the Allahabad High Court.
Justice Singh and Justice Varma were originally transferred from the Allahabad High Court to the Delhi High Court in October 2021.
Justice Singh completed his law degree from Delhi University in 1993 and enrolled as an advocate the following year. He was an Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court and primarily practiced in Delhi.
He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court in September 2017 and was made a Permanent Judge in September 2019.
