Central Government clears name of Justice Sandeep Mehta as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court

The Central Government cleared the appointment of Justice Sandeep Mehta of Rajasthan High Court as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court on Sunday. A notification to this effect was published on the website of Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the name of Justice Mehta's appointment as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court on 8th February.

Justice Mehta was appointed as a judge in Rajasthan High Court on 30th May 2011 and is due to retire on 10th January 2025.

The notification reads as under:-

"In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sandeep Mehta, Judge of the High Court of Rajasthan to be the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office".
