Today, the Central Bureau of Investigation updated the Bombay High Court, stating that Rhea Chakraborty is no longer associated as the brand ambassador with the company for which she's seeking permission to travel to Dubai.
Advocate Shreeram Shirsat, representing the CBI, told the bench that they had reached out to the company to confirm Rhea's current status as their ambassador and were awaiting a response. Meanwhile, Advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, representing Rhea, requested permission to approach the vacation bench.
The bench granted permission for him to approach the vacation bench and instructed the case to be scheduled for the 26th of December. Rhea Chakraborty had filed a petition in the high court to suspend the lookout circular issued against her by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Rhea Chakraborty was under investigation by the CBI in connection with the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Sushant's father had filed an FIR against Chakraborty, prompting the CBI to register a case against her. Chakraborty had filed an appeal with the high court seeking permission to travel to Dubai for a brand promotion event.
The CBI has objected to the petition, arguing that since the FIR was lodged in Patna and was being investigated by the Delhi CBI team, the Bombay High Court lacks jurisdiction to provide relief to Chakraborty.
In the prior hearing, the division bench comprising Justice AS Gadkari and Justice SC Chandak raised inquiries regarding whether she had undertaken any overseas travel in recent years.
