CBI approaches Supreme Court challenging the bail granted to Lalu Prasad Yadav

Today, the Central Bureau of Investigation approached the Supreme Court challenging the bail granted to Lalu Prasad in cases linked to the alleged fodder scam.

The leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal had secured bail from the Jharkhand High Court in a minimum of four instances, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has contested all of these court decisions. He had been found guilty in these cases, and his requests for legal review are still awaiting consideration in different judicial forums.

The 950-crore fodder scandal encompassed the misappropriation of funds designated for animal fodder from numerous government treasuries in the former Bihar. Allegedly, the Animal Husbandry Department fabricated invoices to enable this fraudulent activity.

Chaibasa Deputy Commissioner Amit Khare had discovered the embezzlement in 1996, when Lalu Yadav was the chief minister.

Last month, the CBI had filed a chargesheet against the RJD chief, his wife Rabri Devi and their son and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in the alleged land-for-jobs scam.

Investigating agencies have alleged that people were given employment in the Indian Railways from 2004 to 2009 - when Lalu Yadav was the railway minister - in return for land parcels being gifted or sold at cheap rates to the Yadav family.

Lalu and Tejashwi Yadav have taken a leading role in spearheading endeavors to bring together the opposition factions. They played a pivotal part in coordinating the inaugural large-scale gathering of 16 opposition political parties, which took place in Patna on June 23. Subsequently, an additional 10 parties participated in a follow-up meeting in Bengaluru on July 17-18, during which the alliance adopted the name Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance

The court will hear the petition on August 25.
