Calcutta HC Addresses Advocate's Plea Regarding Recent Attack on ED Convoy in West Bengal

Today, the Calcutta High Court addressed a petition brought forth by an advocate highlighting the recent incident where locals attacked an Enforcement Directorate convoy. This incident occurred during the raids conducted in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali and Bongaon areas.

''The ED officials faced a brutal attack first in Sandeshkhali, followed shortly by another in Bongaon... Your Lordship, I implore you to expedite the matter today or, at the latest, by tomorrow, considering the escalating unrest in the region," the counsel urged before the division bench comprising Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Supratim Bhattacharya.

After listening to the counsel, the Chief Justice instructed her to file the case through the regular process and assured her that it would be addressed on Thursday, the designated day for public interest litigation.

Moreover, the Chief Justice mentioned that the bench was already cognizant of the incident and queried the source from which the petitioner had acquired their information.

"We are aware [of the incident]...we have read half your petition in the papers. Who is the petitioner? How did he get his information? [From newspapers]? File the plea in the regular course...it will be taken up on Thursday."

As per the court's decision, the plea has been scheduled for hearing on Thursday, the 11th of January, 2024.
